TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Jammu deserves more districts as its area is two-time that of Kashmir
Size of valley district 1585.3 sq km and Jammu's 2629.3 sq km
8/21/2018 11:32:56 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 21: Jammu province, the state's second largest region after Ladakh, is being discriminated against at all levels. Even in terms of districts, Jammu province is at a disadvantageous position and this is the negation of the 1983 Wazir Commission's report and recommendations. Wazir Commission was appointed by Sheikh Abdullah in 1981 under pressure from Jammu. According to the Wazir Commission report, Jammu deserved 10 districts and Kashmir 7. But the Ghulam Nabi Azad or the Congress-led Government in the state bypassed this recommendation and increased the number of districts in Kashmir with one stroke of pen from the existing 6 to 10 in 2007, one each for 1585.3 sq km on an average, with a couple of districts just one-tehsil district (for example, Shopian). The State Government created 4 more districts in Kashmir despite the fact that there was no such demand anywhere in the Valley. It also increased the number of districts in Jammu from 6 to 10, but one each for 2629.3 sq km. The people of Jammu, who fought for more districts between 1975 and 2007 and...

8/21/2018 11:32:43 PM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 21: It turned out as a big surprise for all political pundits across the state when son of dreaded separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani subtly spoke against the stone pelting in Kashmir, asking leaders to devise new strategies for future. "I came across one of my friends who told me the heart wrenching story of his brother being hit by a stone in one of the incidents when he was out because of an emergency. Now his one eye is completely damaged. This is just a small illustration why is it important that we show a disciplined way during every protest and focus on how to save ourselves from the big enemies rather than opting for self destruction. It is time w...

8/21/2018 11:29:47 PM
