Indian, Pakistani troops trade heavy fire on LoC

Jammu, Jan 23 Indian and Pakistani troops traded heavy fire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Wednesday. Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand accused the Pakistan Army of continuing "its nefarious activities along the LoC. "Around 4 p.m., Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by using small arms fire and mortars in Mendhar sector. "The Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively. Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 23: A man was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at his residence at Trikuta Nagar falling under the jurisdiction of police station Bahu Fort The deceased has been identified as Ranjeet Singh (48) son of Gurveer Singh of Sector No. 1 Trikuta Nagar. Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 23: An avalanche had also struck the Jawahar Tunnel area on Tuesday, blocking both tubes on Qazigund side. A massive snow-clearance operation is underway to restore the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway which remained closed for vehicular traffic for the third consecutive day Wednesday, officials said. The snow clearance operation on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel - the gateway to Kashmir - was started and the snow-clearance operation is going on in full swing, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic National Highway, Pardeep Singh Sen said.
