Kamaal counters Omar, says accession was on three subjects
Hasn't Omar read Instrument of Accession?
10/23/2013 11:20:50 PM
Jammu, Oct 23: Just a day after JKPCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz claimed, and very rightly, that Jammu & Kashmir "is an integral part of India", the uncouth, uncultured and provocative NC additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal pooh-poohed his claim and accused the Congress leader of "appeasing his masters in New Delhi". "Accession is based on three things only, foreign affairs, communication and defence. It is an established fact that we have acceded only not merged. Soz should go through the history and that he is pleasing his bosses in New Delhi by issuing statements against NC…Soz should know that facts are facts and constitutional reality is reality. Wishes don't alter constitutional reality. You can't hide facts. He is trying his best to assert his loyalty to New Delhi," said Kamaal on Tuesday while talking to local news gathering agency KNS.
Kamaal also rejected the claim of the JKPCC chief that the Congress would form the government in the state on its own and said that it is for the people to vote or not vote any party to power. "Soz is banking on the approach of treachery. Let's leave it to people. They (Soz and ilk) are day dreaming and are living in self illusion, he said".
What Kamaal said about the Soz's claim that the Congress would form the next government in the state on its own is not important. The NC additional general secretary was right when he said that the people are the chief determinants and only time will show who forms the next government. Similarly what he said about accession and merger was just ridiculous. Accession means merger. The Indian Independence Act under which Pakistan came into being in August 1947 and the princely states acceded to either of the Indian or Pakistan Dominion nowhere said that Jammu & Kashmir will have to seek merger with India after acceding to it. Kamaal only fooled himself, like other NC leaders, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, by saying that the state only acceded and not merged. He and others of his ilk just cannot mislead the people of the state.
However, what was significant was the statement of Kamaal that the accession of the state was on three things - defence, foreign affairs and communication. (What was true of Jammu & Kashmir was also true of all other 560-odd princely states, as the accession document was the same. There was nothing special for Jammu & Kashmir.) What Kamaal said could be construed as a veiled attack on his nephew and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Omar Abdullah had repeatedly said in and outside the assembly that the state had acceded to India on four subjects - Defence, foreign affairs, communication and finance. He had said so on the floor of the assembly on March 25, 2013 and he had made this statement 10 days after the Indian Parliament adopted a unanimous resolution on Jammu & Kashmir saying the state was an integral part of India. Omar Abdullah made identical statements at least twice after March 25, 2013.
Kamaal asked Soz to read history of Jammu & Kashmir to know the facts. It would have been better had he asked his nephew to go through the Instrument of Accession. In any case, it is clear that Omar Abdullah has not read the Instrument of Accession. What an irony!
