Pinning faith in a rogue
Don't trust Islamabad
10/23/2013 11:21:22 PM
Jammu, Oct 23: One can understand the reasons behind the insistence of Kashmiri leadership and its handful of agents in Jammu on what they call a result-oriented dialogue between India and Pakistan. By result-oriented dialogue between the two countries they mean compromise of Indian sovereignty in Jammu & Kashmir, the rise of a situation under which Islamabad will be an undisputed master of POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, which are Indian, and will have a very effective say in this part of the state, spectacular victory of communalism and two-nation theory that resulted in the communal partition of India in 1947, enslavement of Jammu and Ladakh on a permanent basis and so on. They consider this part of Jammu & Kashmir disputed and, hence, they want New Delhi to condone all the Pakistani crimes and resolve the "Kashmir issue" in accordance with the communal aspirations of Pakistan and Kashmiri leadership.
But one fails to understand why New Delhi under the Congress and the UPA again and again walks into the trap of Pakistan and its agents in Kashmir. Pakistan is a rogue and irresponsible nation and its leadership is known across the world as the most irresponsible, unreasonable and undependable. The Pakistani leadership is notorious for its double-speak.
It would be only appropriate to reproduce here the opinion of an unbiased Pakistan-watcher of Indian origin - opinion which was carried by a leading national daily in its last Sunday edition. Reflecting on the nature of Pakistan and its leadership, this objective Pakistan-watcher wrote thus: "Pakistan has been an enigma worldwide. Americans found it to their dismay and disbelief when they traced Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in a garrison town of Pakistan merely 40 miles away from Islamabad. Incidentally, Pakistan has been one of the principal allies of the Americans in their war against terrorism! The story of Pakistan's doublespeak is as old as the history of that country. Just look at Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Not in any way a practising Muslim, he used to drink alcohol, eat pork, smoke 50 cigarettes a day, and dress like an English gentleman. Yet, it was he who created Pakistan in the name of Islam. In the early 1970s, it was a socialist in Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who introduced radical Islam in the country - a trend which gained momentum under Gen Zia-ul-Haq. Then there was Benazir Bhutto, one of the most liberal Prime Ministers in the history of Pakistan, who presided over the Taliban's rise in Afghanistan. Gen Pervez Musharraf 'did not blanch at whiskey, danced when the mood was upon him', as Steve Coll describes him in his Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Ghost Wars, and yet he believed firmly in the necessity of the Taliban. And today, there is Imran Khan, once a playboy cricketer, who wants us to negotiate with the Taliban!"
What this Pakistan-watcher wrote the other day is a reality. It is unfortunate that those controlling New Delhi have been refusing to recognize this reality and overtly and covertly helping the cause of Pakistan and its agents in Kashmir in Jammu & Kashmir. When will the Congress and the UPA appreciate the national mood and act accordingly against Pakistan which has unleashed a religious war on India?
