Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Feb 16: A youth was today booked for allegedly circulating morphed photographs of his ex-girlfriend on social media and labeling her as an informer of security forces in this North Kashmir district.
"We have taken cognizance of the matter and registered an FIR in the case. The culprit behind the circulation of the photographs has been identified," a senior police official said.
Police official said that several pictures of the girl clad in western clothes were doing rounds on the social media networking sites including Facebook and Whatsapp. The person who had posted these images sought to defame her by labeling her as informer of security forces, he said.
"Some of the pictures are morphed while others are of intimate nature which the girl might have shared with the youth while she was in a relationship with him. The photographs in which the girl is holding an alcohol bottle and pistol have been found to be morphed," the official said.
The police official said that it seems the youth was trying to settle scores with the girl after their break up by posting these morphed pictures on social media apps and websites.
Reports said that on February 7, one girl name (withheld) resident of Old Town Baramulla lodged a written complaint in Police Station Baramulla stating therein that one of her friends with whom she had shared her pictures has misused them and circulated those on social media after they fell apart on some issue.
She had also alleged that some of those pictures have been photo-shopped and morphed to put her life in danger by falsely portraying her as informer of security forces, reports said.
A police official said that based on her complaint a case FIR number 13/2017 under sections of 354-D, 506 RPC was registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation it surfaced that one Abrar Ahmad Mantoo S/O Raqeeb Ahmad Mantoo R/O Hatmura Mattan, Anantnag had uploaded these photographs on Facebook and were subsequently shared by some people on Facebook and WhatsApp, the police official added.
He further said that the accused has been arrested and those people involved in circulating these photographs on social media have also been identified and will be dealt as per law.
