CRPF Head Constable dies of cardiac arrest in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 17: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Head Constable (HC) died of cardiac arrest while he was on duty early this morning in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
Lack of exercise, coupled with cold weather conditions is responsible for the increase in the number of cardiac arrest deaths in jawans in the valley, a CRPF spokesperson told .
He said that Head Constable Daleep Singh, who was stationed at the headquarters of 180 battalion of CRPF early this morning, complaint of severe chest pain.
He said Mr Singh was immediately taken to Sub District Hospital Tral, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Arrangements are being made to send the mortal remain of deceased to his native place in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, he added.
"Due to the situation in the valley, jawans are not regularly exercising. And the cold weather condition is adding to the risk of cardiac arrest among the jawans," he said.
However, he said in order to tackle the situation, gyms have already been installed in every unit so that jawans could exercise on regular bases.
He further said jawans haling from warm places, including Rajasthan, are at high risk of suffering cardiac arrest due to cold weather conditions in the valley.
The spokesperson said there are doctors assigned with each unit. But, he said they are general line doctors.
"Out of 47 doctors in different CRPF units in the valley, 35 are contractual local doctors with an MBBS degree. But they are general line doctors and are not specialized," he added.
He said jawans have been asked to take keep life saving drugs on them at all the time.
