Early Times Report
Mendhar, Feb 17: Denting tall claims of the government about providing better road connectivity in remote areas of Poonch district , majority of roads across the district town area are in dilapidated condition.
One of the most important road of Mendhar, Bhera road and other adjoining lanes is dotted with potholes , lack of proper drainage system and full of dust. The road connects several villages up to Mendhar tehsil , Bhera to Jaba with tehsil headquarter of Poonch district .
Due to pathetic condition of the road /dust and drainage system ,the students , employees, businessman , common people, commuters face immense hardships. The road makes it difficult to drive or to even walk on it.
While talking to Early Times , a group of locals said that the condition of roads is extremely dilapidated even as the district is well represented in the government.
They said due to bad condition of roads and improper drainage system, the common people of this area , commuters , especially students are facing problems. Due to such pitiable state of the roads, the vehicles plying daily on these roads also gets affected as the shockers of the vehicles get damaged and to repair them the owners have to spend a lot of money on their repairs.
The roads have turned from bad to worst during past several years. Ironically, the government and administration is not paying any attention towards the dilapidated condition of the roads leaving common people to suffer.
Meanwhile, the residents alleged that the officials of the concerned department , administration & government have not invited tenders for construction works.
Due to non-maintenance of roads, water pipes , drainage system , the condition has worsened , as no one from authorities inquired about the condition , the locals said.
Residents of area point out that there were a few govt and private schools here and vehicular traffic had increased day to day because of which they are battling potholed roads in their localities and say that negligence and lack of political will is to be blamed for the deplorable condition of roads /streets and drainage system.
Residents have appealed District Development Commissioner Poonch , concerned department and government to intervene into the issue and redress their problems.
