Support to Hafiz Saeed is Pervez Musharraf's pre-poll gameplan
2/17/2017 11:50:03 PM
When since 2008 India has not been able to mount pressure on Pakistan for detaining JuD chief,Hafiz Saeed, who, India claims has masterminded the Mumbai carnage how could Pakistan succumb to pressure from India after a gap of eight to nine years ? Had Islamabad been influenced by New Delhi it would have stopped using the soil of Pakistan for exporting terror to India. The Army in Pakistan continue to lend support to militants in crossing into Jammu and Kashmir. The Army in Pakistan continues to provide material, moral support to militants. Hence these militants use Pak make weapons against security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. All this has continued during the last 27 years depite the fact the India has knocked the doors of the UN and other super powers for intervention. In this situation it is not prudent for e General.(Retd) Pervez Musharraf to blame the present regime in Pakistan for coming under the pressure of India for the former''s action against Hafiz
Pervez Musharraf has stated Pakistan Government was taking action against Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) solely due to pressure from India . Musharraf has called for the release of Hafiz Saeed, who is under house-arrest.Musharraf has alleged that Pakistan does not have a clear perspective in regard to terrorism, which had affected Hafiz Saeed and the JuD."In my opinion they are against Taliban (in Pakistan), they did not commit any terrorism in Pakistan or anywhere in the world. So they should be dealt separately. They were banned through United Nations by India and we are following the same line," he said.
Asserting that Hafiz Saeed should definitely be freed, Musharraf further stated that the JuD was not a militant organization, but was running a very fine NGO instead, which had contributed in relief activities in post earthquake and post floods periods in Pakistan."They [JuD] have been engaging the religious youth in relief and welfare activities and if we push them against wall and call them terrorist, the religious youth could incline to Taliban and terrorists," said Musharraf. Yes there is no doubt about the JuD running one NGO which is engaged in providing relief to those affected by poverty, floods or any other natural calamity. But what about the dreaded Lashkar-i-Toiba of which Saeed is a patron ? And if any militant group that is responsible for violence in Kashmir which has derailed peace it is the Lashkar-i-Toiba.And hitherto In Kashmir Lashkar-i-Toiba was treated as a terrorist group belonging to Pakistan but by now the Lashkar has been able to recruit local youth in Kashmir in the outfit. This is being done to give an indigenous colour to militancy thereby absolving Pakistan.Pervez Musarraf believes that JuD activists are against Taliban (in Pakistan), they did not commit any terrorism in Pakistan or anywhere in the world. So they should be dealt separately. They were banned through United Nations by India and Pakistan is following the same line.
By trying to support Hafiz Saeed and his JuD Pervez Musharraf is simply trying to strengthen his
Vote bank had not succeeded in making any dent in the general elections that he had contested four years ago.Since the next general elections in Pakistan are due next year Musharraf has plans of trying his luck and if luck favours him this time he could replace Nawaz Sharif. At this juncture Pervez Musharraf does not match anywhere before the strength of either the PML(N) and Pakistan peoples' Party hence he plans to secure support of fundamentalists and extremists which could help him to register his presence in the National Assembly. His ultimate political assignment is to defeat Nawaz Sharif as he had done it in the past. Some Nineteen years ago when Sharif was on the threshhold of signing a peace treaty with the then Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, Pervez Musharraf had sabotaged Nawaz Sharif's plan by staging Kargil war. The armed conflict on the heights of Kargil changed India's stance towards Pakistan. And the scars of Kargil war are fresh in the mind of e very Indian politician. These are some of the factors that have motivated Pervez Musharraf to support Hafiz Saeed and other extremists.
