Mehbooba likely to face tough times from her colleagues

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 17: The PDP is facing an internal crisis after Friday's cabinet reshuffle and the induction of senior leader Alftaf Bukhari into the cabinet.
The party is facing tough time in controlling its legislators and ministers especially at a time when the crucial panchayat and parliamentary elections are round the corner.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, in particular, is having tough time in taking the reins of the party with full command.
The first sign of the crisis came with the resignation of Basharat Bukhari. Bukhari was considered a close confidant of late CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
"Bukhari was completely taken aback after he was stripped off his plum portfolio. He was not expecting it," said sources.
They said Mehbooba had taken the decision after reviewing the performance of Bukhari, particularly during the unrest in 2016. "Many ministers were not able to visit their home constituencies. A minister has to have contacts on the ground, and this could have helped in controlling the situation. But these ministers were found wanting and this has disturbed the CM most. It's for this reason that she had decided to punish Bukhari," said a senior PDP minister.
But sources said Bukhari and some other MLAs who were earlier sacked could pose a serious challenge to the CM at a time when the crucial elections are on the cards.
"The CM is going to face tough time. The ministers who have been dropped may not deliver during elections, and this coupled with the fact that PDP is already facing tough challenges in the Valley, is not a healthy sign for her.
She may to have to adopt persuasive skills to get the things in order before it swells into a storm," said the leader.
