Engineer Rashid: one more Geelani in making!
MLA Langate finally reveals his ambition to become another hawk of Kashmir's Separatist landscape

Jammu, Mar 20: Engineer Abdul Rashid, known in Kashmir Valley for his erratic stand and bizarre statements has on Monday hinted at what political pundits had predicted a long time ago. All, at present, this legislator from north Kashmir Langate has tried is to fit in Syed Ali Geelani's shoes.
Geelani, a pro-Pak separatist, who has been spitting venom against any attempt for establishment of peace in conflict torn Valley has much in similar with Engineer Rashid. The duo has a common CV and this is what Rashid hinted in his press conference on Monday at a local hotel in Srinagar. While distancing himself from the forthcoming parliament polls in South and Central Kashmir- slated for April 9 and 12, this year, Rashid said his future course of action will depend on the ground situation and New Delhi's response to situation in Kashmir. Er. Rasheed added that Party has always tried to take a decision what situation demanded in the interest of people of J&K and its future course of action will depend on the ground situation and New Delhi's response to situation in Kashmir.
It was a clear hint that he would contemplate the signals radiating from the ground over whether to remain a legislator or shift to the separatist camp. Geelani, 28 years down the line did the same. Geelani's participation in the electoral process lasted until 1989, when the militancy in Kashmir began. He resigned his seat in the legislature in protest at the time, and has boycotted all elections held since.
As far as Engineer Rashid is concerned, he contested polls for the first time during the assembly elections of 2008 as an independent from North Kashmir's Langate constituency and won it. Present is Rashid's second stint as MLA. However, this former engineer has been vocal against the government and its policies whole toeing the separatist line in the JK Assembly. He has been reiterating his stand about Kashmir being a 'disputed territory', forgetting that he has taken oath two times in a row upon the constitution of India against which he is speaks.
Till date, since the time of his induction as an MLA, Rashid has been striving to masquerade himself as a separatist in assembly while pitcging talks to militants including teh dreaded terrorist Syed Sallah-ud-din. He floated his own political party in 2013 and named it Awami Ittehadd Party (AIP). You could find him anywhere- be it at Srinagar's Jamia Masjid- asking to lift Curfew from the area or outside the Civil Secretariat- protesting against what he terms Human Rights abuses. His stint as MLA has given him the way to grab headlines and become a familiar name.
Now, when Rashid looks contended, his words are enough for one gauge what he is eyeing at- becoming another hawk of Kashmir's separatist landscape. He deems the ground as fertile and favourable. Less risky and more rewarding. It is only the matter of time to say when the AIP leader would bid farewell to the assembly and join the pro-Pak camp. He has a CV and on its top is written that his master Syed Ali Geelani too has served the assembly that too for more time than his.
