Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 19: An orderly in a tehsil office of Samba district has reportedly been working as a clerk for the past many years and is notorious for his corruption. Sources told Early Times that this orderly had managed to occupy the chair unofficially, and this unofficial unceremonious elevation to the chair was facilitated by none other than his immediate boss, the then Tehsildar of that tehsil.
"With the help of his bosses this orderly has been trapping gullible people and extracting money from them in lieu of their revenue-related works for which the department is otherwise duty-bound", the sources said.
"With his 'super intellect', this orderly convinces the people visiting the office to grease his palms for their work and leaves no chances to let them go without giving him bribe," the sources said.
They said he also gave a big share of corruption to his bosses to keep them happy and to keep himself intact in the office.
The sources further said that those people, who try to extract revenue documents without greasing his palms, were being usually admonished and their applications are routinely thrown into dustbin.
The orderly handles all official works in office which are supposed to be done by the clerk, and with this corrupt practices he has earned huge fortune, the sources informed.
They said that he had been working in the office for the last eight years and had purchased many kanals of land; he also owns tractors, and recently bought another luxurious car.
"The influence of this orderly can be gauged from the fact that he has not been transferred from his office in last eight years of his service.
Moreover, being a local resident, people approach him to get their work done at his residence," the sources said, adding that despite various complaints lodged by people with his seniors he is not taken to task.
