Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 19: After clinching victory in the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary constituency by default, NC's Farooq Abdullah has almost disappeared from the volatile scene of Kashmir, in which he added fuel to the fire until the other day through his provocative speeches. Known for his flamboyant lifestyle and fickle minded persona, Farooq Abdullah took refuge to this oratory political fire just for the sake of 'grabbing' his seat in the Parliament. Why has he suddenly mellowed down his concern for the protestors in Kashmir …?
As always, Farooq Abdullah has lived up to his reputation of not being true sympathiser of Kashmir and Kashmiri. In the power game, he provoked the youth of Kashmir to hilt while he campaigned in his Srinagar -Budgam constituency for LS bypoll on until April 7, last date of the campaign for which election was held on April 9. He defended stone pelters of Kashmir and even questioned India's claim on Pak Occupied Kashmir, using harshest words and expressions against BJP led NDA government at Centre. He lashed out PDP-BJP coalition on several issues, many of them redundant, all for the sake of winning elections. He won elections on the basis of very low turnout and the volatile situation in which he added fuel to fire , all for the sake of elections. To cement his position, Abdullah provoked voters who have a tendency to tilt towards separatism. This was political opportunism was its best he used and now he is suddenly silent.
When Farooq Abdullah raked up some controversies in r
Why is Farooq silent?
The moot question is why did Farooq adopt silence only a day after his victory. It was on that day he demanded imposition of Governor's rule while holding PDP-BJP combine for all failures. Tension grew much after the victory day and Farooq Abdullah chose to fly to Jammu where his presence was not needed at all.
cent past, it did not come as a surprise nor did it raise many eyebrows as it was the timing of his remarks which suited him politically. Sources even within his party admit that Farooq who is 81, had to adopt pro separatist line in a conspicuous manner which he did while defending stone pelters all through his campaign for the twin purpose of saving his own image as also in ensuring resurrection of the otherwise defunct cadres in Valley and his party as a whole. Success in the polls came, no matter by default but it certainly cannot be deciphered as any help to NC as a party, said the sources adding that the organisation is still struggling to survive amid the ever volatile and turbulent turf of Kashmir.
Be that as it may. However, the moot question is why did Farooq adopt silence only a day after his victory. It was on that day he demanded imposition of Governor's rule while holding PDP-BJP combine for all failures. Tension grew much after the victory day and Farooq Abdullah chose to fly to Jammu where his presence was not needed at all, for NC had not much stake in Jammu LC polls where the strategy of support was already decided between NC and Congress. But Farooq, now a victorious leader was no more concerned over widespread protests in Kashmir which assumed alarming proportions with students of colleges too joining from far and wide. Farooq Abdullah did not make any comment and remained in Jammu for a couple of days, far away from the tension of Kashmir….. This is only expected of a politician called Farooq Abdullah.
