Tawi Trekkers releases calendar of activities

JAMMU, Apr 20: Tawi Trekkers J&K, the biggest trekking club in the state, released its calendar of activities for the year 2017-18, in a function held at K L Saigal Hall, here today. Chairperson, IASOWA (IAS Officers Wives Association) J&K, Ruby Sharma was chief guest.
She released the calendar in the presence of the presiding guest Prof. Lalit Magotra, an eminent scientist and a writer and guest of honour, general secretary Press Club of Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal as also senior member of Tawi Trekkers and heads of the various educational institutions.
Highlighting the activities to be undertaken by the club this year, senior vice president, Ram Khajuria mentioned that this year the club shall organize the Himalayan Trekking Programme in Manali area of Himachal Pradesh for about 500 school children during summer vacations, two trekking expeditions in Dhauladhar Range in Himachal Pradesh for junior and senior members and one in Moungri area of Udhampur district exclusively for senior citizens. Besides, regular short treks and visits to heritage sites and Wild Life parks shall also be organised in Jammu region. A state level sport climbing competition exclusively for women shall also be conducted by Tawi Trekkers at Sprawling Buds School in the month of July prior to the participation of state women's team in the 2nd North Zone Women Sport Climbing Competition scheduled to be held at IMF, New Delhi.
Another attraction of the year would be participation of club's mountaineers in a major mountaineering expedition to Kang Yissay and some other peaks in Ladakh Himalaya in August, 2017. The prestigious expedition shall be organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. Besides, the club shall also organize a small, low budget mountaineering expedition to Nun peak in Dhauladhar range of Dharamshala.
While releasing the calendar Prof. Lalit Magotra, who is the founder member of the club and is now the Advisor of the club hoped that with concerted efforts of the club and MAJK and generous sponsorship of various activities by the J&K State Sports Council, the state would soon become a formidable force in sport climbing and mountaineering at the international level. He congratulated Shivani Charak for her selection in the Indian team for the World Cup in Bouldering.
Prof. Lalit Magotra expressed his gratitude to the management of various schools especially Sprawling Buds School, Oriental Academy, Shangrilla Public School and Shiksha Niketan group of Schools for their help and active cooperation to the club for the smooth conduct and promotion of adventure activities.
Principal of Shiksha Niketan, Rameshwar Mengi; Administrator of Oriental Academy, Vivek Chauhan; Principal, Arti Sharma and Director, Rahul Sharma of Sprawling Buds School and other representatives of various schools were among prominent persons present.
A renowned writer and president of Dogri Sanstha, Chattar Pal, who is also associated with R C Home for Handicapped, Udheywala, Jammu announced a donation of Rs.10,000 to Tawi Trekkers while receiving an award. Thanking Chattar Pal for the donation, Ram Khajuria declared that the money would be utilized for the promotion of adventure activities among the physically and visually challenged persons only.
The J&K climbers who participated in the 2nd North Zone Sport Climbing Competition for visually challenged persons at IMF, New Delhi and brought laurels to the state by winning five medals, including two gold, one silver and two bronze, were also honoured.
While general secretary of the Club, Shawetica Khajuria presented report of the activities conducted by the club during 2016, the function was compared by Himani Choudhary. Vote of thanks presented by Vaishali, a sport climber.
Other prominent persons present on the occasion included Dr C K Khajuria, Yogeshwar Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Everester Ram Singh Slathia, Navneet Gupta, Rakesh Goswami and Suman Lata, Director Physical Education, Government College for Women, Parade.
