Irony: Talking of initiatives which it failed to take while in power….
Congress desperate to keep itself alive on Kashmir….!
4/20/2017 11:19:12 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 20: Congress is trying to show it can do what the party could not do in 60 years. In what looks like gravest insult to Kashmir and its people, the party which allowed the things to reach critical passé, now claims it would take initiatives to restore normalcy there. Desperate to keep itself alive, Congress through its new found love and 'strategy' for Kashmir is only drawing flak from all quarters for setting up what it has named as New Policy Planning Group.
Ironically, this new Policy Planning Group is being led by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, a man though known for his integrity, who remained silent during two successive tenures of UPA over what happened in Kashmir in over a decade's time. The Group has on its board veterans of the party like former Home Minister P Chidambaram, Dr Karan Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad, besides AICC general secretary and In-charge J&K Pradesh Congress, Ambika Soni, all top level leaders, besides few more at the state level.
According the party, this Group will visit Kashmir and assess the ground situation there which undeniably is passing through a critical state once again. What sounds ridiculous and ironical is when party high command states that based on the assessment and so called study of this Group, initiatives will be taken for restoration of normalcy in the turbulent Valley. One wonders what kind of initiatives the party can take which is not on mind of present dispensation both at the state and central level.
One is prompted to ask the Congress that why the party is desperate to do anything now while in opposition and what it could not do in long period of 60 years, particularly during two successive terms of UPA during which phenomenon of unrest began in the Valley. Is Congress oblivious of 2008, 2010 unrest when it enjoyed bonhomie with National Conference when protests reached touched peak of violence.
Congress needs to be reminded why it could not implement the recommendations of most crucial Working Groups which were set up during its tenure at Centre led by Dr Manmohan Singh. Congress conveniently shelved all those recommendations despite massive and marathon exercise of the meetings of these WGs. And one wonders has Congress forgotten about its own two panels -Vohra panel and Padgaonkar panel which were constituted by the party, again as cosmetic approach as the outcome of these committees was pushed aside by the party while it ruled the nation. It has utterly been non serious about Kashmir when it was in power and what makes it a laughing stock is the fact that it is now trying to explore so called initiatives by the leaders.
