Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 20: Officials at Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar seem to have given up on the stated position with respect to the official names of some of the places of Kashmir. Surprisingly, the officials at the Kendra made no effort to correct the wrong in this regard.
This became clear today during the airing of a popular programme in the morning. The guest during the programme 'Good Morning J&K' said that she is married in the Islamabad district in the Kashmir valley. The guest repeated this many a times and the people manning the programme took no effort to dispel the doubts about the correct usage of the name of the place.
Pertinently the official name of Islamabad district in South Kashmir is Anantnag. Ever since the outbreak of militancy in Kashmir the separatist organizations as well as militant organizations have introduced the name of Anantnag as Islamabad. Given by todays 'blunder' one is forced to think that maybe the DDK is toeing a separatist line in this regard.
Sources told Early Times that it was duty of the programme producer or the person on the panel to issue a disclaimer about the correct name of place in the programme. The concerned person or persons should have displayed the correct name of place o
DDK in Mess
Things are going in a wrong way at DDK Srinagar with the Kendra showing disrespect to official name of places such as Anantnag as Islamabad and Shankracharya as Takht-e-Sulaiman. The lack of professionalism is taking toll on the functioning of DDK Srinagar and the same may spell doom in the days to come.
the bottom so that there is no misconception about the correct name of the place.
"A prominent news caster of DDK Delhi was taken to task when she mentioned the name of Shankaracharya hill as Takht-e-Sulaiman. The news caster was shown the door and since then she has a joined a newly floated news channel. If action was taken against her one should expect the same against the person responsible for the overall manning of the programme," said sources.
This took place at a time when Kashmiris were facing uphill task during the devastating flood of 2014. The newscaster who came to Kashmir from Delhi to cover the flood while divulging details about the Shankaracharya hill said that it is also known as Takht-e-Sulaiman. She faced a probe and stick to her stand saying that there is nothing wrong since many people say Takht-e-Kohi Sulaiman instead of Shankaracharya.
Sources said that things are going in a wrong way at DDK Srinagar with the Kendra few days back promoting a private hospital of the valley. They said that being public broadcaster the DDK Srinagar cannot promote anything and the station higher ups should keep such things in mind. The lack of professionalism is taking toll on the functioning of DDK Srinagar and the same may spell doom in the days to come.
