Bio-friendly Namma toilets at Railway Station Jammu yet to be made functional
4/21/2017 11:04:29 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 21: The callousness of Railway authorities at Jammu Railway Authorities could be gauged from this fact that two blocks of bio-toilet installed under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by IRCTC at Railway Station Jammu are still not made functional, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers converging at this station.
Everyday, thousands of pilgrims and tourists visits Jammu Railway station, but due to non- functioning of bio-toilets, they are being forced to stand in long queues outside the toilets constructed by Sulabh International or ease themselves in the open.
The slogan "Use Public Urinals Not Public Places" written on installed bio-friendly Namma toilets seems to be mocking at the hyped Swachhta Abhiyan as the purpose of bio-friendly toilets is not fulfilled.
Two blocks of bio-friendly toilets (Namma toilet) of worth Rs 17 lakh each, one is installed near the Reservation Counter and other one at exit point of the railway station are not functioning since installation by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
As per a railway employee, the Indian Railway's IRCTC department had installed prefabricated Namma toilets last year under Corporate Social Responsibility, since the installation the same are covered with concertina wires making it difficult for the passengers/ employees/ vendors to use the same.
The Jammu Railway Station is among the seven stations including Mumbai, Vijaywada, Varanasi, Amritsar Lucknow and Katra which were shortlisted by IRCTC to stall bio-friendly toilets under CSR, but after installation, these are yet to be made available for public.
On one hand government is emphasising on cleanliness by spending so much on Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, on the contrary Jammu Railway station authorities have failed to maintain the toilet complexes installed within the premises of Jammu Railway station making passengers/ tourists suffer.
