Anantnag, Apr 21: Former Legislative Council Member and National Conference leader, Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri Fridayaccused politicians of using Indian armed forces as a 'tool' to achieve communal agenda.
On the 2nd death anniversary of his father Late Haji Abdul Gani Veeri, Dr Bashir while addressing a gathering here in south Kashmir said, "Indian Army is remembered for their highest professional standards, secular conduct and moral ethics which it has maintained since its inception but unfortunately for the past one year it appears this institution is also being used as a tool to achieve communal agenda." He cautioned Indian army not to fall prey to "communal political executive" who are using army to realize set communal agendas. He said that statements of Army Chief Lt General Bipin Rawat and subsequent conduct of subordinates working in Kashmir by way of using humans as shield against stone pelting, forcibly under intimidation forcing youth to chant particular slogans and torturing boys in the camps and later releasing these video has dented the image of armed forces. He strongly asked army to desist from such practices in the larger interest of peace.
While paying tributes to his father, Dr Veeri said that late Abdul Gani Veeri under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah along with so many comrades fought ideological battle for 50 years and remained incarcerated for maximum period of their life and wanted resolution of Kashmir issue through peaceful means. "Had Government of India realized the sincerity of Kashmiri leaders probably we would have been most peaceful and prosperous state today. Unfortunately India is transferred in the hands of religious fanatics who are biased towards Muslims at large in principle and have changed discourse from goli say nahi into "boli say nahi goli say" & are killing people indiscriminately in Kashmir for which present state regime is responsible and cannot escape accountability," Dr Veeri said.
