Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 21: Sanjay Sharma alias Sanju of Akhnoor, who is alleged to have murdered top gangsters - Jagdev Singh alias Jebba of Dumi Malpur, a few kilometres short of Akhnoor bridge, and Sikandar Arora alias Billoo of Pakki Dhaki - has surrendered before police.
A minister in BJP-PDP government and a senior police officer are alleged to have helped him in his surrender which has been kept by police a closely guarded secret, according to police sources.
Soon after his surrender at an undisclosed location, cops took him to a court which sent him to jail, sources claimed.
He had allegedly killed Jeba in broad daylight in the heart of Akhnoor town in 1995. He was arrested in this case and lodged in Ambphalla jail where he developed animosity with another gangster Billoo who too was lodged in the jail.

In 1997, he allegedly killed Billoo inside the jail on Bhaiya Dooj eve. He himself was wounded in the incident. A case in this connection was registered against him at Pacca Danga police station. He was later released on parole. However, before he could again be lodged in jail, he had jumped the parole and gone underground. He had not been arrested since then as police could not get any clue about his whereabouts

He was later released on parole. However, before he could again be lodged in jail, he had jumped the parole and gone underground. He had not been arrested since then as police could not get any clue to his whereabouts.
His name was also linked by police to the sensational Chopra family murders. After going underground, he had fled the state. Sources alleged that he was in touch with the minister and the senior police officer for the past some time. At their instance, he surrendered before police at least two days back, sources claimed.
With his surrender, police were hopeful of taking the lid off several 'unsolved' criminal acts in the district, sources said.
