Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, May 18: Nothing more than a money minting industry, as JKMWB is in a deep slumber. And if decades old residential building, toilets, washrooms, ragged matting, damaged pillars and windows are in bad shape, the Board has nobody to blame but itself.
According to sources , "Local residents of Tangmarg area have alleged that, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Wakf Borad (JKMWB) has become a money minting industry, as the board knows that here is a renowned Muslim shrine of Baba Reshi, Sufi saint Baba Payamuddin Reshi (RA).
"Today the local zaireens (devotees) and Babareshi Traders Association (BTA) were up in arms against the work culture and maintenance of Wakf Board, they are receiving huge amount of money from this revered shrine of Baba Payamuddin, sources told Early Times.
They said that, the board has miserably failed to pay any attention towards the development and uplifting of this shrine, and they have thrown the devotees on the mercy of God.
However sources further said that, "the shrine of Baba Reshi named after the Sufi saint Baba Payamuddin Reshi in North Kashmir that tops the revenue generation list for the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Wakf Board with Rs 2.74 crore in the last financial year is in shambles and badly deserves the attention of the Board.
"There are dirty washrooms, ragged matting, damaged pillars and windows and when one looks at the roof of the shrine, it narrates the tale of neglect. The mosque adjacent to the shrine is in a pitiable condition as well, said sources.
The devotees and locals staged a massive protest here against the Muslim Wakf Board alleging that the condition of the shrine and mosque have gone from bad to worse with government or the Wakf management showing no interest to refurnish it.
"This shrine is a golden hen for the Wakf and whatever income the Board generates goes to the coffers of the Board officials, protesters told media persons in Tangmarg.
They said this historical shrine has been completely neglected by the Wakf. "The Wakf is only interested in revenue and not in renovation," said protesters.
Despite many attempts were made to contact Vice Chairman Wakf Board but could not be contacted for his version.
It is pertinent to mention here that, "A shrine of saint Baba Payam-Din, Zeyarat Baba Reshi is situated near Alpather Lake at a distance of about 13 kilometers from Gulmarg.
