Srinagar, May 19: Business and other activities came to a grinding halt today as youth clashed with security forces, who burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
Scores of youth, including school students, took to the streets in main Anantnag town and adjoining areas and asked shopkeepers to down shutters. A security force team rushed to the spot and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protestors, who started to pelt stones. As the protestors did not back down, security forces burst teargas shells to disperse them.
In view of intense clashes, shopkeepers downed shutters and traffic went off the road in these areas. The clashes were still going on when the reports last came in.
