Unnerved by NIA raids, separatists knock doors of politicians
8/18/2017 10:27:30 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 17: While the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has gone after separatists and their sympathizers in Kashmir, the people who are under the radar of investigating agencies are desperately knocking the doors of politicians from mainstream parties.
For the last two months, the NIA and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have been probing terror funding in Kashmir. The raids on separatist leaders and their sympathizers have unnerved them.
Now those who are under the radar of these investigating agencies or have been arrested are seeking help from the mainstream leaders.
Sources said many of the separatist leaders' relatives have approached the mainstream politicians to ask the probe agencies to go soft on them.
Many of these could be seen visiting the Civil Secretariat these days to seek the help.
"These people have been asking the politicians to pressurize the Centre not to act against them," sources said.
Many of the separatists have close links with mainstream parties of the state. Similarly, many businessmen who have links with separatists have approached the mainstream leaders.
"A business man recently met a minister and requested him to ensure that the investigating agency doesn't act against him for his alleged links with separatists for subversive activities," a source said.
The NIA has arrested seven separatists, but there are reports that 150 separatists leaders, their sympathizers, and activists are on the radar of the premier agency.
A mainstream leader recently told the Centre to be cautious while acting against the separatists. "I hope Narendra Modi-led government will take action only against those involved in terror funding and not the innocent ones," he said, referring to the recent arrests of separatists by the NIA.
