Cop suspended for taking money from vendor after video goes viral

Jammu, Aug 23: A head constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) was suspended and legal action initiated against him by the department after a video showing him drunk and extorting money from a street vendor in Ramban went viral.
"Action has been initiated against accused cop identified as Head Constable Munawar Hussain, hailing from Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district,'' a police official said.
He further said that the Head Constable Manawar Hussain left the District Police Lines (DPL) without informing his seniors and was found "misbehaving" with a woman vendor near Bus Stand in Ramban market on Tuesday afternoon.
Someone made a video of the incident and uploaded it on social media sites, following which Station House Officer Ramban, Inspector Rajeshwar Singh Slathia immediately reached the spot and took Hussain for a medical examination which confirmed that he had indeed consumed alcohol, the official said.
Officer further stated that complaint of one lady namely Dhamali of Jaipur, Rajasthan (a vendor) also lodged a written complaint with police station Ramban and a case under FIR No 125/2017 undre section 382of RPC has been registered against Manawar in connection with the snatching of Rs 100 from vendor lady.
He further said that due to his notorious activities, he was transferred from Kishtwar to Ramban, as his spouse and son had also been to Ramban to keep eye on his activities.
"In view of his notorious activities, his salary account is being carried on by his son and wife,'' police officer said and added that he was also under close surveillance for the last one-week for reformation, but he instead unauthorisedly got absent.
The official said Hussain will face strict action as he had damaged the reputation of the police and committed a gross violation of discipline.
Hussain has been suspended for unauthorized absence from the District Police Lines and misbehaviour, the official said.
Pertinently, three FIRs including FIR No.52 of 2014 under sections 451 and 354 of RPC, FIR No.203 of 2014 under section 510 of RPC and FIR No. 114 of 2014 under section 510 again of Police Station Kishtwar have already been registered and challaned against the accused official.
