4 LeT militants, 2 soldiers injured in two separate encounters

KUPWARA, Nov 21: Three militants of LeT outfit and one army Jawan were killed and two army soldiers injured today in two separate encounters that erupted between heavily armed militants and security forces in Handwara and Zurham areas of this north Kashmir district.
According to a senior police official that, "after receiving an intelligence inputs about the presence of 2-3 heavily armed militants security forces launched Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Magam area of Handwara tehsil.
Militants opened fire at a police check post at Sultanpora in the Zachaldara area of Handwara, after which SOG and CRPF carried out searches in Khar Mohalla of Magam Handwara, however the hiding militants opened heavy volume of fire on them, triggering off an encounter, the police official told Early Times.
The official said that in the retaliation, three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter in Magam on Tuesday morning.
Three weapons including AK-47 rifles, rounds and some magazines and other ammunition was recovered from the bodies of the militants, quickly adding that the identity of militants was not immediately ascertained, but they belong from Pakistan origin.
However, DGP Dr S P Vaid in a tweet said that, three LeT terrorists all Pakistanis were neutralized in Magam area of Handwara district in North Kashmir.
Police Chief Dr Vaid hailed the forces for the successful operation in Handwara.
Meanwhile one militant and Army Jawan were killed in another gunfight that erupted between security forces and militants in Zurhama forests today afternoon.
The police official further said that a joint team of Army's 23 Para commandos, 160 TA, SOG and CRPF Cordoned off the forest area in Gujarpati, Zurhama, following specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
Srinagar based Defence Spokesperson, Colonel Rajesh Kalia told Early Times that as the joint team intensified the searches and the hiding militants opened fire triggering an encounter.
Operation is going on till the last reports came in, as the militants probably three in number, are hiding in forests. One army jawan has been martyred and two soldiers got injured, Spokesperson added.
