Early Times Report

Poonch, Nov 22: The workers and helpers of Anganwari in block Mendhar and Balakote are without salaries for the last 8 months and the supervising staff of ICDS department has been apathetic to their problems sources said here today.
Workers and helpers engaged in Anganwari Centres in Mandhar and balakote rued the official apathy as they have to wait for months together for their dues which the concerned supervising staff disburses on pick and choose basis sources informed. Some workers whom wished not to be named told Early Times that for the last 8 months we have not been paid our salaries. When we approach to seniors at ICDS office they behave rudely with us and harass us for one reason or the other . They disburse salaries to their choicest workers while the others are told that budget funds are yet to come. Senior Assistants in the office of ICDS for Mendhar Shafqat Ahmed and Abdul Rashid for Balakote usually tell us when we raise any question regarding our salary.
They also alleged when we got to attend the monthly meeting we are made to sit in open. The behaviour of officials with us always remain unparliamentary and if we try to counter them they threaten us of disengaging from the job.
Early Times contacted CDPO Balkote Ab Aziz to learn about the facts but he paid no heed to our calls while the CDPO Mandhar Makhlees Qureshi said that there was very worst condition of the ICDS offices before I assumed the office but now things are getting streamlined. So far as the salary of Anganwari workers and helpers is concerned. I think that has been cleared up to 3-4 months. As there were insufficient funds available therefore a little delay has taken place, he said adding as soon as funds are made available, the issue of salary will be over. Locals alleged that most of the Anganwari Centres all over the Poonch district were dysfunctional and the material meant for these centres is being misappropriated by these senior officials of the department who were hell bent to affect the working of the centers.
