Amnesty to stone-pelters: BJP unhappy
11/22/2017 11:36:51 PM
Early Times Report

jammu, Nov 22: The state unit of the BJP has expressed serious reservation over the proposal of the interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma submitted to the Home ministry to drop cases against 4500 stone pelters .
According to the sources, a section of the party has communicated its apprehensions in this regard to the party high command. The party feels the proposal if and when accepted and executed could be used against it in the Jammu region.
"We can understand the concerns of the interlocutor who wants to bring in peace in the valley. But taking this huge step of dropping cases in such a number has not onloy the security implication but more than that the political considerations too. We have political constituency too," said a senior BJP leader.
The BJP leaders feel that the proposal, which has in been accepted in principal by the home ministry, when starts being executed could be seen as the PDP gaining upper hand over the BJP in running the affairs of the government on its terms and conditions.
"We were not taken into confidence. The proposal has definitely been first mooted by the PDP. We have been advocating tough stand against the stone pelters. The opposition, especially the Cong will the turn the tables at us on this issue and will accuse us on being 'soft' towards separatism," said the leader quoted above.
The sources said that BJP is more worried as the proposal has been mooted just before the PAnchayat elections, which though are not being held on party lines but definitely have political tinge and it can't be separated.
"Our ministers are already not performing much and it is turning against us. Now, with this proposal, what ever the ideological position we have will be negated and countered and it could have a bearing on upcoming Panchayat elections," said the sources .
