Private radio's 'creativity test' for aspiring RJs in Kashmir
Make a hot advertisement on contraceptives!
11/23/2017 11:54:43 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 23: In a development that has left puzzled many Kashmiri men and women aspiring to make a career in radio jockeying, a private radio station, which is scheduled to start its operations in Kashmir, allegedly put some "bizarre questions on creativity" during interviews for RJ.
Some of the men and women who faced the interview said they felt "puzzled" when they were asked to perform as couples and show how would they make "hot advertisements" on selling contraceptives in a place like Kashmir.
"At first I felt nervous with the question but then there were no options so tried to show the best of my creativity," said one of the aspiring RJs who faced the interviews recently held at a private hotel in Sonawar area of Srinagar.
Insiders said one of the girls came up with an advertisement campaign with slogan: "If you want to keep your boyfriend happy, use contraceptives." Insiders said the alleged "campaign" was duly admired by the interviewers.
Insiders said a couple which gave multiple options of how to promote sale of condoms were admired by the interviewers.
People from the field of broadcasting said it was "demeaning" to pose such questions on "creativity" during interviews. "No doubts that creativity is the sole of the RJing but why do you need to bring in contraceptives?" said a veteran broadcaster, who is known for his "witty" remarks on Radio Kashmir.
But given the lack of job openings in Kashmir, one of the aspirants said he would not even mind to do a real-time advertisement on contraceptives provided he is given the job.
"This is a life-time opportunity for me and I won't mind to be a sales representative of contraceptives if I were given such an offer for the 'chilly entertainer'," said an aspirant.
A civil society forum said they are filing a complaint with District Commissioner Srinagar Dr Syed Aabid Rashid Shah.
Despite repeated attempts the radio channel couldn't be contacted for comments.
