MGNREGA Employees Association to extend strike

Jammu, Dec 13: All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association today decided to extend their ongoing indefinite strike in support of their demands and warned that strike shall be continued in all District of J&K state till the demands are not fulfilled.
This was disclosed by provincial president of the MGNREGA Employees Association Sandeep Kalotra here today. He said the Minister of Rural Development (RDD), Panchayati Raj and Law & Justice, Abdul Haq Khan had promised that a job policy will be framed for the MGNREGA employees. Besides, 10 percent hike in the remuneration of contractual staff, focus on employment of women, grant of ex-gratia up to Rs five lakh to MGNREGA employee and contractual staff in the event of death during execution of work, Rs two lakh in the event of permanent disability and Rs 50,000 in case of partial disability and the department will pay all expenses for the treatment for the workers as per actual on the recommendation of Sate Employment Guarantee Council (SEGC).
John Mohd said that they requested the Government to fulfill their genuine demands but no favorable step has been taken so far by the Government. "We have been holding such protests/strike for many years to seek regularization of jobs but the state government is not ready to pay heed to our demands," said John.
Meanwhile, a meeting of core committee of MGNREGA employees association of J&K was held, in which all District presidents and other members of association were present. In this meeting they discussed about the protest to be held on 18th December at press club Jammu.
In last the employees requested the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Minister for Rural Development Department Abdul Haq Khan to fulfill their long pending demand as soon as possible.
