Poll results from Himachal and Gujarat image changer for Modi and Rahul
12/13/2017 10:35:01 PM
Within four years the pull of dynasty has proved quite powerful for Rahul Gandhi to become President of the oldest party in India. In fact he has inherited the president's seat of the Congress from her mother, grandmother, and his ancestors. It was mere pull of the dynasty that Rahul has been elected, that too unopposed, as Congress President and Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to put on the gown of Presidentship on December 16 when Rahul Gandhi was elected as vice-president of the party in 2013. Rahul Gandhi has been elected unopposed as Congress president, party's central election authority head Mullappally Ramachandran has announced in Delhi.
Rahul Gandhi will collect the certificate formally declaring his ascension to the post on December 16. The 47-year-old scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family was the lone candidate in the fray. Rahul Gandhi succeeds his mother Sonia Gandhi, who remained in the post for 19 years. The CEA received a total of 89 nomination papers proposing Rahul Gandhi's name for the top post. All the nomination papers were found to be valid, Ramachandran said.
"Since the withdrawal of date/time is over and as there is only one candidate (Rahul), as per Article XVII (d) of the Constitution of Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi was elected as president of the Indian National Congress,.
Rahul Gandhi became the vice-president of the party in January 2013. It is a meteoric rise that too in the oldest and the active political organization in India. As far as his mother, Sonia Gandhi, is concerned she remained as President of the Congress for 19 years but without any conflict or controversy. She spoke minimum words and that is the reason for her having been safe from any controversy. It is time for Rahul Gandhi to learn a lesson or two from his mother. As head of a premier party there is need for people around him to suggest to him (Rahul) to be decent and not act as a hooligan berating the BJP led NDA Government left and right. As head of the main opposition party he is duty bound to criticize the Government and its policies but that too he should carry out criticism of the Government in a decent and sober manner. As President of the Congress Rahul is not supposed to speak or voice his resentment or appreciation over all the issues under the sky.
Rahul needs to discipline himself and thereby he could discipline his party. Rahul has shown mastery, so far, in arranging alliances with smaller parties. But his arrangement, worked out, in Bihar seems to have failed where the JD(U) Government, headed by Nitish Kumar, has finally ditched Rahul to be part of the BJP. And his alliance with Hardik Patel, a known face among the Patidars, in Gujarat is his new political machinations linked with the success of the Congress in the elections. And those voices that supported Rahul Gandhi as President of Congress may get louder if the Congress dislodges the BJP after a span of 22 years in Gujarat. And if the Congress retains power in Himachal Pradesh it would be another feather in the cap of Rahul. And if the BJP wins from both the states it may be a big loss not only for the Congress but for Rahul Gandhi too. This way the Assembly poll results from Gujarat and Himachal may settle the fight between Rahul and Modi. Modi will add to his image as Prime Minister if the BJP regains power in Himachal and retains power in Gujarat. And if the Congress retains Himachal and regains power in Gujarat it may allow Rahul to take liberties as Congress President.
