Rajouri, Jan 21: Over a domestic dispute that took ugly turn, an ex-serviceman namely Rashpal Singh opened fire reportedly from 12 bore gun on his serving soldier son namely Balwinder Singh in Androlla village under Rajouri police station jurisdiction at about 9.30 pm on Saturday.
In the shootout the bullet hit Rachna Devi wife of Balwinder on her arm that came in between to save her husband, sources said. According to another version as Balwinder skipped from the spot after the verbal tiff to avoid any revengeful reaction from father. But in a fit of rage the ex-serviceman opened fire on his daughter-in-law that hit her on the arm.
Sources said upset over the incident and after a feeling guilty; Rashpal Singh also made an unsuccessful attempt to commit suicide and in the process received bullet injury in his stomach. Both were rushed to the district hospital by the relatives and family members. Doctors at district hospital provided the initial medical help to stop further bleeding and both were referred to government medical college (GMC) hospital at Jammu.
But being a serving soldier, Balwinder Singh rushed both of them to army hospital and got admitted there. The condition of Rashpal is said to be critical while Rachna Devi is stable. "Police after legal formalities have seized the weapon of offence and started investigation into the incident. No statement could be recorded yet in this matter" said a senior police officer. Sources said that Balwinder Singh was on leave and few days ago had taken her ailing mother to Amritsar for medical check-up and treatment. Recently both returned to home and on Saturday late night hours father and son had verbal scuffle over some domestic issue that lead the father to take this extreme step.
