Health Deptt deliberately lingering on appointment of confirmed Principal in GMC
1/21/2018 11:23:56 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 21: Continuing adhocism in the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, the State Health Department is all set to make a panel of senior doctors, to select the principal of the GMC Jammu. The process, many believe is being fudged to appease a junior doctor instead of appointing confirmed senior doctor as Principal of the biggest health institution of the Jammu Province.
Reliable sources told Early Times that it was a deliberate attempt on the part of few in the power corridors to delay appointment of confirmed Principal in GMC Jammu as many senior doctors are likely to retire this year. If the department makes the attempt then the whole process will take one year time to appoint the confirmed Principal and in the event favourite junior will continue discharging duties as Principal and go by whims and fancies of people in corridors of power.
Sources further disclosed that after receiving numbers of complaints regarding the poor functioning of the premier health institute, the incumbent Principal has given charge of few departments to few junior and controversial doctors, which has caused a lot of resentment amongst faculty members.
It is learnt that concerned section in State Health Ministry started examining the files of senior doctors who are eligible for the post of Principal, but surprisingly, the files had been kept pending so that the incumbent adhoc Principal continued to dance to their tune.
Sources further added that even the CM of the state is not happy with working in the GMC Jammu and she is also interested to end adhocism at the highest post at the earliest.
"The uncertainty at the top level in the GMC is adversely affecting the patientcare, general administration and academics and research of the UG and PG students of the Medical College" said a doctor. Principal Secretary H&ME, Dr Pawan Kotwal was not available for comments.
