|People suffer, hand pumps go dry|
|Early Times Report|
Bhaderwah, Apr 18: The hand pumps in village Dalyian of Bhaderwah went dry for the past few months as a result of which the villagers are virtually left with no other source of drinking water.
Due to the non-functioning of the hand pump, the village was faced with acute shortage of filtered drinking water, people alleged. Swami Raj, Uttam Chand, Dr Parshotam all residents of Dalyian village, said due to some technical defect , the two hand pumps had stopped working.
"We have time and again brought the matter to the notice of authorities concerned, but no one has so far turned up to repair the hand pump," they claimed. They alleged that there was no proper facility of water supply to the village. "There are PHE pipes in the village, but contaminated water is being supplied. We have to travel at least 2 km daily to bring good water for bathing, washing and drinking," they claimed.
Despite tall claims by the authorities, there is no arrangement of pure water supply in the village which is based on 100% SC population, we have been provided water supply which is most dirty, mixed with mud and sand and is not fit for drinking, they added.
The people of the area are in deep anguish against the PHE department, which has failed to get the filtration plant functional. They appealed PHE higher ups to personally intervene and mitigate their sufferings. Despite repeated attempts, the Executive Engineer (PHE) Doda didn't pick up the phone calls for a comment.
