Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 20: At a time when the coalition government in the state has been hit by the controversy generated following the Kathua rape and murder case one of the ruling parties constituted the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) today.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that is in coalition with Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in Jammu & Kashmir today constituted the PAC. The decision to constitute the PAC was taken by PDP President and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Eleven members have made it to PAC.
Besides Mehbooba, the other members of PAC are Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, Mohammad Sartaj Madni, Abdul Rahman Veeri, Mehboob Beg, Nizam-ud-din Bhat, Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Tarlok Singh Bajwa, Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjoora and Yashpal Sharma.
The PAC is the highest decision making body of PDP and over the years the committee has been entrusted with carrying out some of the important responsibilities of the party. Majority of the members who have made it to the PAC are the basic members of the party and have been associated with PDP from day one.
It would be in place to mention here that most of the ministers of PDP are perplexed over the recent statement of minister of tourism Tassaduq Hussain Mufti. Tassaduq had said that PDP had failed to fulfill its mandate for which it was elected to power. He had said that both PDP and BJP have turned out to be partners in crime.
Tassaduq who is the younger brother of chief minister is relatively a new entrant to politics and it seems he is yet to learn the nuances of the modern day politics. His statement was not taken well by most of his party colleagues although some of them have lent their support to the same even if in a clandestine manner.
Sources told Early Times that since Tassaduq is the brother of Mehbooba no disciplinary action whatsoever has been taken against him. They said that party president wasted no time in acting against former finance minister Haseeb Drabu who had in New Delhi said that Jammu & Kashmir is a social problem and not political one.
"If a minister says that the party has become a party in the crime then either the ministers of party have to resign or action has to be taken against the minister who issued such a statement. However, in this case neither any action was taken against the minister nor did the other ministers resigned from their respective ministries," said sources.
Tassaduq's statement was welcomed by former chief minister and National Conference leader, Omar Abdullah. Omar virtually saluted the tourism minister and said that Tassaduq has spoken his heart out. Interestingly, the minister of tourism did not resign and as such he continues to be part of the government which he targeted only few days back.
