Women of J&K being mal-treated: Harsh Dev
Says settle issues of Anganwari workers, helpers on priority
5/23/2018 10:36:54 PM
Early Times Report
Hiranagar, May 23: Flaying the suppression, exploitation and harassment of women employees by the ominous BJP-PDP government, Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and former Minister sought release of long pending wages and enhancement of honorarium of Anganwari workers and helpers associated with ICDS in J&K who have been languishing on roads for the last 111 days in the pursuit of their legitimate rights. He was addressing huge gatherings of Anganwari workers and helpers sitting on 'dharna' in Samba and Hiranagar today.
Supporting the cause of Anganwari workers agitating on the roads, Harsh Dev Singh took the coalition govt to task for turning a deaf ear to their shrill cries for justice. "The responsibilities of Anganwari workers and helpers are extremely significant as they ensure proper care for pregnant women, new born children and nursing mothers. Besides administering the immunisation of all children below the age of 6 years, they also supervise the distribution of supplementary nutrition to them. Monitoring regular health and medical check-ups for women and children is one of their key responsibilities who also play a role of a teacher to provide pre-school education to children between the age of 3 and 5 years. The women and child development is under serious threat with Anganwari workers and helpers protesting on the roads for their demands", anguished Harsh said.
Lambasting the 'dirty combine' for its criminal apathy towards the Anganwari workers and helpers, Harsh Dev Singh sought the release of their pending wages and enhancement of their honorarium besides other demands pertaining to their superannuation. He said that engaging the said workers and helpers for a paltry honorarium of 3600/- p.m and Rs. 1600/- p.m respectively was the biggest injustice besides human rights violation of grave nature.
Making the womenfolk to work on meagre wages which was less than even the minimum wages prescribed under the Act amounted to worst form of exploitation which had pushed them to face the miseries of life. He regretted the cruel joke being played with the daughters of the state headed by a women CM whose honorarium was probably the lowest when compared to their counterparts working in other states of the country.
Appealing to the Chief Minister to address the issue on priority and to devise a suitable job policy for these ICDS workers, Singh demanded the revision of salaries of Anganwari workers and helpers to a minimum of Rs. 10,000/- p.m and Rs. 6000/- p.m. "State but the Union govt too had left them in lurch with the aggrieved female employees yelling for their genuine demands on the roads in sun and rain.
Yash Paul Kundal the slogan of "Beti Bachao-Beti Padao" trumpeted with extravagant fanfare nationwide has turned into a mere rhetoric sprinkling salts on the wounds of the aggrieved women workers. The shabby treatment doled out to the daughters of Jammu and cane charging them had made the mockery of the 'airy' slogans of Narendra Modi which have proved a hoax", regretted Kundal. He asserted that Panthers party shall stand by Anganwari workers and helpers in their struggle and continue to agitate vigorously unless their demands were conceded by the government.
