Despite SC directions, JKHC extends cold shoulder to of retirees

Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 24: Despite directions of the Supreme Court of India to release of pensionary benefits in favour of retired employees of J&K Handicrafts (S&E) Corporation, the official high-handedness in the Handicrafts Corporation is making senior citizens suffer as majority of the pension cases are yet to be forwarded to Accountant General's Office (AG office).
As reported already, the Government had constituted group of Ministers to look into implementation of Supreme Court decision wherein Jammu & Kashmir Government had been directed to provide pension benefits to employees of J&K Industries and J&K Handicrafts Corporation as both the corporations were full-fledged Government departments prior to 1979.
As there was delay in implementing the orders of the Apex court , the retired employees had filed a contempt petition which was taken very seriously and Government was forced to implement Supreme Court directions. Now even after these directions some senior officers in JKHC are playing delaying tactics with the retired employees and majority of the pension cases are yet to be finalized. Sources have told Early Times that officers are demanding huge cuts from the retired employees for release of their pension arrears.
The J&K High Court as well as Supreme court had established employee's right to pension under J&K Civil Services Rules (JKCSR), treating them at par with co-employees already in receipt of pension as they are to be treated as they were in the year 1979.
Pertinently in April 2017, only daily wagers of J&K Power Development Corporation were granted benefit of pension by Finance Department issuing an instruction to Accountant General that they be treated as "Government Employees" for the purposes of pension. These very Daily wagers by the same Finance Department had been held not entitled to pension.
The retired employees of J&K Handicrafts (S&E) Corporation have now appealed Finance Minister and Industries Minister to ensure that their legitimate due is delivered to them as directed by the Apex Court without any further delay.
