Once a villain, Faesal now turns sacred cow for Omar
7/11/2018 11:20:34 PM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, July 11: National Conference, which once sort action against Shah Faesal, the IAS officer from Kashmir for attending a political meeting has now come to his defense as he faces action for his sarcastic tweet.
The state administration department served a notice to the 2010 Indian Administrative Service exam topper Shah Faesal after the Department of Personnel and Trainings (DoPT) asked the state to initiate action against Faesal who is presently in the US pursuing a post graduate course at the Harvard University. However, Omar criticised Centre's action against 2009 IAS topper Shah Faesal and said that questioning him for a tweet against rape was "shocking".
Talking to media on Wednesday, Omar said "Shah Faesal had said it in accordance to the current situation and he raised voice against rapes. To question now his integrity and honesty is unjustified." Omar questioned New Delhi for not acting against people who are involved in communal tension in various states of India. "Why no enquiry against the minister who garland people involved in killing of a person? Further if no action is taken against the people in various states where communal tension is being spread through rumors on WhatsApp and twitter," he said. However, the NC has criticised him several times in the past and sought action against him.
In 2016, the NC said that party had taken a very serious note of Director Education, Shah Faesal's participation in a PDP political meeting at Gupkar. The spokesperson had said that party would register a formal complaint, seeking prompt action against the participation of government officers in political events.
"If the PDP has to interact with businessmen and entrepreneurs and advocate the party's ideology and vision, why should the Director Education be present? This not only falls in the realm of impropriety but also questions his neutrality and objectivity in discharging his professional duties," the NC spokesperson had said.
"Naeem Akhtar is not the Education Minister anymore and Mehbooba Mufti hasn't taken over as the Chief Minister - not at least for now and Shah Faesal is not obliged to attend such political meetings. That this participation happened on a work-day, in working hours is a greater disappointment as it indicates misplaced priorities of a public servant. To ensure this trend is nipped in the bud, National Conference General Secretary will be formally writing to the Honourable Governor Shri N. N. Vohra," the spokesperson had said days before Mehbooba took over JK CM.
However, surprisingly, Omar since Tuesday has been saying that nobody can question the integrity of Faesal.
