Early Times Report

Budgam, July 21: After protesting in a unique way in Srinagar few days back , affected farmers of Semi Ring Road on Saturday protested inside DC office Budgam. The farmers sang Kashmir folk songs depicting highhandedness of Government by way of forcible land acquisition.
With an aim of pressing for their demands of fair compensation for the land to be acquired by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), affected farmers of district Budgam under the banner of Semi Ring Land Owners Welfare Committee protested in a peaceful way before the Deputy Commissioner Budgam. The farmers instead of raising slogans or shouting chose to sing Kashmiri folk songs depicting Govt's dictatorial attitude towards the farmer community.
Noted theatre artist Rayees Wathoori in order to get attention of authorities particularly DC Budgam Dr Sehrish Asgar sang verses like "Chaen Gaflatan Zolnamm mai Seenai, Haa Haakimo Aar Soun Yenaai" (Your highhandedness and inefficiency has burnt my heart, O authorities have a mercy upon us".
Farmers from Chadoora, Narbal, B K Pora and Budgam had come in large number to district headquarters Budgam. The protesting farmers after performing the street play and singing songs before the DC handed-over the memorandum to her wherein farmers appealed the Govt to come to their rescue.
"The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) pays adequate compensation to the farmers / other persons whose land and property is acquired for construction of highways in other states of India. 4 times in Rural areas, 2 times in Urban areas, but not in J&K as Right to Fair Compensation under Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act (RFCLARR Act 2013) enacted by Govt of India in 2013 is not applicable in our state. Our land is being forcibly occupied by NHAI and J&K Govt is its collaborator. NHAI is also not ready for Private Negotiation which is a provision in J&K Land Acquisition Rules "said Ali Mohammad Wani General Secretary of Land Owners Welfare Committee. The Farmers Welfare Committee has now planned another protest in the district on coming Saturday.
