8/25/2018 11:01:56 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 25: People living near high voltage corridor of Samba Amargrah transmission line are complaining of severe headache and fatigue from last 4 days as the 440 KV DC line has been made operational by the company that has been allotted the project.
Details available with Early Times reveal that residents of Buzgoo , Kutabal, Jedden, Batwodder, Bonen, Branwar, Neegu, Kachwari and Watrad villages of Budgam have been complaining of severe headache, nausea and fatigue from last 4 days since the line was made operational by Northern Region Strengthening Scheme 29 (NRSS 29) Lt and Sterlite Power the private companies that have been allotted the project under BOOT agreement for 35 years.
"Our whole family is feeling scared from last 4 days , we are having severe headache , anxiety because there is lot of noise near the transmission line corridor. We appeal authorities to come to our rescue as the line is causing serious health hazards . The defect should be rectified " said one Abdul Hamid Mir a resident of Branwar Budgam while talking to Early Times
As per the research and publications put out by World Health Organisation (WHO) the high voltage current passing through residential houses can cause Headaches, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, prickling or burning skin, rashes & muscle pain
As reported already the role of Jammu & Kashmir Forest department is under scanner as the department has allegedly failed to recover compensation from the power company which is executing a project under Northern Region System Strengthening Scheme (NRSS-29). Sources have revealed that hundreds of forest trees have been axed from Baramulla to Rajouri. The transmission line of the NRSS -29 passes through 11 districts of state including Budgam , Shopian ,Poonch and Rajouri. Sources say that Forest department has failed to recover legitimate compensation from M/S Sterlite Grid a private company that is executing the project. In most of the forest areas local Forestors , Range Officers and even Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) have not made the actual assessment of damages caused to Forests. The officers have even failed to recover the compensation in many Forest blocks and ranges which has not only caused damage to environment but has caused a loot to state exchequer also.
Villagers in many affected villages allege that majority of the affected farmers are not paid compensation at all while as their land has been turned useless whose commercial value is at stake now. NRSS 29 is a project that is executing Jallandhar Samba Amargarh power transmission line. As per the DPR the project is to get completed by October 2018 but company made the line operational before the scheduled time, but the heavy noise and severe electric field developed around the corridor in almost all the villages is raising question mark on this project ?
Local residents in Budgam allege that the payment of fair compensation is made only to blue eyed people. Sources say that at many places the line passes over agricultural / horticulture land but no compensation has been paid as the commercial and agricultural value of land has come down drastically.
"Earlier we were concerned about payment of compensation to affected people , but after the line has been made operational few days back , the problem has aggravated as we are now concerned about its health hazards. We appeal Governor Chief Secretary and DC Budgam for their intervention" said Mohammad Iqbal a resident of Branwar who lives near the transmission line.
