JKNPP protests disregard of local youth by Industrial houses
8/30/2018 9:41:09 PM
Early Times Report

SAMBA, Aug 30: Leader and activists of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panther Party staged protest demonstration at Main Chowk Samba, on National Highway leading to suspension of vehicular traffic for more than 30 minutes.
Aggrieved over the dis-regard of educated unemployed youth of District Samba by the Industrial houses of the District in breach of the terms of agreement besides huge health hazards and loss of lives and agricultural fields caused by pollution creating units, a strong contingent of JKNPP activists led by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and Yash Paul Kundal State President Young Panthers held a huge procession in Samba town and raised slogans against Industrial houses of the District accusing them of enriching their coffers at the cost of common people of the District and by depriving them of their legitimate rights.
While the outside industrialists were granted permission to establish their units and operate in the state so as to assist the sagging economy and generate employment for the educated unemployed youth, the ground situation appeared to be in total contrast with the avowed objective, said Harsh Dev Singh. And whereas the local youth is being ignored and disregarded, big industrialists prefer to bring the work force from outside the state despite availability of skilled as well unskilled workers in District Samba.
Pointing towards the written clauses in the agreements at the time of launch of big corporate and industrial houses in the state, these entrepreneurs had assured of 90% of the total employment in their respective industries for local youth which has been violated with impunity by almost all such business concerns. Calling upon the industrial houses in the District to give preference to local youth in employment, he called for proper implementation of all agreements and assurances by them and to absorb the unemployed youth to honour not only their written contracts but also fulfilling their corporate social responsibility in the process.
Coming down heavily on the pollution creating industries particularly pesticides, chemical, cements besides others, he sought a review of the licenses granted to them in the light of recommendations made by Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal. He said that during his various visits to Samba and Vijaypur villages he was apprised by locals that several pesticides namely Carbofuran, Chlorpyrifos, Phorate, Atazine, Monocrotophos, Newsicle, Furadan, Fusilaxole, Deltamethsin, Curator etc. which were declared as extremely hazardous by WHO were being produced without any check what so ever.
He regretted that toxic pesticides units continue to be allowed to operate in J&K especially Jammu region despite their highly hazardous effects including nausea, nervous and respiratory, paralysis, reproduction problems, environmental toxicity, chest discomforts, skin ailments, cancer etc. He said that not only were they being allowed to operate with impunity but were granted several concessions by the state govt. including interest subsidy, CIS, toll exemption etc. He said that not a single officer of the Health, Agriculture, or pollution Control had ever taken any action against any such unit for violation of Food Safety Act, Insecticides Act or under various Environmental Laws.
