Militants fail to break cops' resolve, kidnap their kin

Early Times Report
srinagar, Aug 31: After failing to break the resolve of police in fighting militancy, militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen's operational commander Riyaz Naikoo has taken the responsibility of kidnapping families of cops and made several threats to them.
The police has been fighting at the forefront along with army and paramilitary with militants. The militants have threatened several times to police to stop participating in encounters. However, the JK police did not pay any heed to their threats. Now the militants have been involving the families of police personnel. Over 10 family members of police personnel were kidnapped by militants since Thursday.
On Friday, Naikoo released an audio message where he made threats to JK police cops and their families.
"You should have supported us but if you cannot do that, you should not oppose it. Once your services are done, India will do the same to your kids," he warned police not to get involved in encounters.
He said that if the police personnel don't mend their ways then militants would ban all police employment. "After which if any cop doesn't not resign, we will kill him wherever they are," he warned.
"We are giving you (JK Police) a final warning that all our relatives, who you have detained without any reason to release them. You know we cannot keep them (relatives of JK police personnel) in captivity. We have only one punishment."
"You destroy our brothers careers…You slap them with Public Safety Act and then earn money and get promotions," he said, apparently referring to those who have been arrested on charges of stone pelting.
The JK police, he claimed, are at the "frontline of this war".
"Now we won't let this become our weakness," he said. "If a policeman says that we are bound with officers and law. We tell such men to resign and then we can deal with such officers who have to live in the same society."
Naikoo's message came in the backdrop of militants' kidnapping family members of several policemen on Thursday.
"We have let your family members go this time unhurt. In future this won't happen. We will deal with them according to your actions," Naikoo warned.
He said that militants target were not JK policemen neither they consider them their enemies.
"If it was they would have been, we would have forced you to do migration in a month. From now onwards, whoever comes in our way, will have to face consequences," he said. "Our war is with anyone who comes in our way, be it Abdul Rahman or Ram Kishan."
He asked the police personnel to get "out of militants way of be ready for consequences".
"We know that when you come home, you keep your pyjamas above your ankles and use a prayer cap. But when you are in police stations, you are like Hitler," he said.
Apparently taking on mainstream parties, Naikoo said that they "have sold" their conscience to government of India. "India wants to suppress the Kashmiris movement at the power. India wants to weaken the movement to ensure that Kashmiris fight themselves. Even policemen are at the front during encounters. Police impose PSAs on youth and harass our families. You are enemies of our mission," he said.
