Jammu, Sept 1: Forest department retrieved 35 Kanal of forest land falls under compartment in Bajalata Block.
In a massive anti encroachment drive carried out on directions of Sat Paul, Divisional Forest Officer Jammu a team of forest officials led by Range Officer Bahu Varinder Singh Manhas, Rakeshwar Singh Khurhan removed encroachment from Compartment No. 50/Bajalta of Bajalata Block and retrieved back 35 Kanals of Forest land from the clutches of Babu Din son of Mandu, Naayat Ali resident of Babu Din and Kasam Din resident of Sail Jagir Bajalta.
Despite resistance from the encroachers the operation was successfully conducted by the forest team and evicted the encroachers who were trying to encroach upon Forest land worth lakhs of Rupees.
The Divisional Forest Officer Jammu mentioned that on specific information the Forest team was constituted for removal of said encroachment and stiff resistance was faced on the spot. However, the forest team was able to retrieve back the forest land by removal of fencing done by said person. He added that the department is taking measures to prevent encroachment on Forest Land. He added that the anti encroachment drive in the Jammu Forest Division is going on and filed staff is vigilant. He further added that the Forest Department is taking measures to prevent encroachment on Forest Land and the encroachers will not be spared at any cost.
In another anti encroachment operation, forest team led by the Block Officer Bajalta and Beat Guards dismantled illegal Tin shed constructed on National Highway near Batra Hospital by one Mohd Asgar son of Suraj Din resident of Batra Sidhra.
In another joint operation Forest and Police Departments seized 10 Kg Nag Chatri (Trillium govanianum) at Jammu, packed in one bags from the possession of one accused. Divisional Forest Officer Jammu mentioned that minor forest produce were illegally extracted by the accused person from the high reaches of forest areas and attempt was being made to smuggle it outside the state. Nag Chatri has medicinal importance and is very costly MFP.
