Woman BJP member from J&K accuses party colleagues of sexual harassment, faces disciplinary inquiry
9/2/2018 11:01:06 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 2: The complainant had confronted the state BJP president Ravinder Raina at a public function three days back and claimed that the party was refraining from taking action against the alleged harassers.
The woman is seen telling J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina that she had complained to senior party leaders about the incident, but no action was initiated.
A brazen story of injustice has emerged from the corridors of power in Jammu and Kashmir after the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) initiated disciplinary inquiry against a female member who accused certain party leaders of sexual harassment.
"Today, I fall on your feet. I beseech you to protect women. You used talk about matru shakti (women power). Now, I'm tired of speaking to you about it," the complainant is seen telling Raina.
The video emerged from a function organised by the BJP to pay tribute to deceased former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The woman is seen telling Raina that she had complained to senior party leaders about the incident earlier, but no action was initiated.
The BJP lashed out at the complainant by saying that it was a breach of discipline as that was not the forum where she should have raised the issue. Instead of taking cognisance of the situation, they sent her a notice to appear before a disciplinary committee on September 8 to explain her point, along with evidence.
"I had been trying to put forth my complaint for a long time, but no one paid heed to it. Every woman fights for her rights. I had a lot of hope from our new leader Ravinder Raina since he always spoke about women empowerment. But, I'm tired fighting for my right," she told.
"I have been aggrieved by a few people in the party and I wanted to raise this issue with Raina. I expected him to take action against the accused. But my complaints were ignored, which is why I raised the issue. I would like to see if the party takes this up seriously or not. I have no other complaints against anyone else, just those who have been torturing me for so long. The kind of words they used while talking to me were very offensive and I wanted to bring it to the notice of the party management," she added.
She also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao' campaign and said that "if betis (daughters) only don't get justice, then who will?"
Meanwhile, in a shocking response, the state BJP president said that the party would move a defamation notice against her. "She does not have any proof and once the inquiry is over, the party will charge her with defamation," Raina said.
