Mehbooba plays 'victim card' to woo Jammu people
Forgets she followed Kashmir centric agenda during her 2-year stint
9/3/2018 10:54:38 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Sept 3: Former Chief Minister and President of the Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday claimed that her party stitched an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party to respect the mandate of the Jammu people.
Many people believe that Mehbooba is trying to gain sympathy in Jammu region by playing a victim card. "Mehbooba during her two and half year stint as J&K Chief Minister just focused on Kashmir and her agenda was Valley centric," said an analyst.
He said that despite her being the chief minister of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh she just spoke about Kashmir. "During her tenure it looked like that Jammu and Ladakh don't exist. She announced amnesty for 10,000 stone pelters in Kashmir but did nothing for the youth from Jammu who are languishing in jails. Someone needs to ask her what she did for people of Jammu during her tenure," said a politician.
He said that Mehbooba during her tenure as the Chief Minister did not come out of the "soft separatism" mode and kept on advocating the cause of the anti-national items. "Had she shown some respect towards Jammu and its people the developmental projects which were taken up during the erstwhile NC-Congress regime would not have been abandoned," the politician added.
An observer said that Mehbooba during her rule just wanted to appease the separatists and Pakistan. "She used to talk about PDP's role vis-à-vis Kashmir resolution and talks with Pakistan. Had she concentrated on governance situation in Jammu and Kashmir would have been much better today," he added.
After losing power Mehbooba has started talking about Jammu and PDP ensuring equitable development of all the three regions but it's just a mere rhetoric. "Everyone knows that no development took place during her two year tenure and her rule was only about statements and nothing else," said an observer.
He said that former chief minister concentrated on awarding party positions and powerful portfolios to her family members. "The rebellion which PDP is witnessing today is the outcome of the wrong policies followed by Mehbooba Mufti. She needs to introspect and think what all went wrong during her tenure. When PDP came into power people of Jammu had thought that it won't follow the footsteps of its predecessors and would give full respect to Jammu people but it did not happen," the observer said, "PDP did what others have been doing for the past 70-years."
