Now Kashmiri youth set dog on fire for fun
Police seek action on NC leader’s complaint
9/4/2018 11:08:01 PM

ET Report

Jammu: Amid revival of new-age militancy, the situation in Kashmir has reached such alarming proportions that Kashmiri youth find fun in setting a stray dog on fire.

A video clip that has surfaced on social media from south Kashmir shows some youth tying a pack of multiple crackers on the tail of the dog and ignited the crackers.

In the video, the poor animal is seen running for life helpless as crackers continue to burn him from his tail. People said the poor animal was badly wounded in the incident while the youth enjoyed the torture.

Mental health experts said given the terror unleashed by Pakistan and its proxies, the people of Kashmir are turning insensitive towards the living beings. Pertinently south Kashmir has emerged as the hotbed of new age militancy.

“What these youth have done only shows how callous the society is turning. When you see militancy as the new glamour this is what is bound to happen,” said a health expert.

Meanwhile the Director General of Police SP Vaid has taken personal note of the matter and asked the police to nab the miscreants.

Interestingly, the DGP responded to tweet by National Conference political secretary Tanvir Sadiq, who had posted a message on the issue.

But the tweet on concern for dog from Tanvir drew criticism with people saying when he is silent on plight of humans why did he speaks on dogs.

“Do you remember your NC Govt was treating people of Jammu and Kashmir like dogs. Or, are you doing it for free publicity,” tweeted Sameera Banu, a woman.

Sadiq was seen reacting that he was a “proud dog-lover” and thus found his duty to inform police.

On this some people from Zadibal reacted saying he was silent on poisoning on dogs when NC was in power. “Just because the issue has gone viral on social media, you wanted to take advantage of the poor animal’s plight. Why don’t you adopt the poor dog, if you are so serious,” said one Maqsood Ahmed.

Despite repeated attempts Sadiq couldn’t be contacted for comments. But a police official said his complaint has been taken note of.
