Early Times Report
Udhampur, Sept 5: The SSA teachers of Udhampur observed teacher's Day a black day Wednesday while reiterating their demand of implementation of seventh pay commission and delinking of salaries from centre sector to the state sector.
A total of forty one thousand teachers working under SSA in Jammu and Kashmir State and 2599 in Udhampur district under Teachers Joint Action Committee an amalgam of various teachers' organisations J and K Teachers Forum, J&K ReT Teachers Forum, Tehreek-e-Rahbar-e-Taleem Forum and J&K SSA Forum. Scores of ReT teachers under the banner of Teachers Joint Action Committee (TJAC), observed black day today in support of their demands boycotting all the official functions. .
Teachers working under centrally sponsored scheme Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) on Wednesday held a protest demonstration here demanding the implementation of benefits of 7th pay commission in their favour. The teachers from various parts of district took part in a protest held at Jammu where the teachers from different parts of district participated . The protesters holding the placards and banners read, "delink SSA salary" and "Implement 7th pay commission.
Rekha Thakur District president SSA women wing Udhampur who took part in protest at Jammu said that they are receiving their' salaries as per 6th pay commission despite implementation of seventh pay commission this year . "We are nearly forty one thousand Rehbar e Taleem teachers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in state and 2599 in district and are facing lot of financial crisis due to the attitude of the state government," .
She said that "our main demand is Implementation of 7th pay commission and delinking of SSA salaries from MHRD to State government budget." She added that when other teachers are celebrating the teacher's day in their schools. We were forced to observe this day as a black day. She further added that it is an irony how national builders are being treated in the state. She added that Government should put an end to the double standards by implementing 7th pay commission. Thakur added that all the teachers working under SSA in Udhampur district observed black day today .
It is pertinent to mention here that around 65,000 Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers had been recruited by the government since 2000, of which 41,000 were employed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme but their salaries had not been delinked from the Central government funds till now which often resulted in delay in payments.
To delink their salaries from central funds the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers continue to take to streets for the last six months. The government has constituted a five-member committee to look into the demands. The committee is scheduled to submit its report in November.
