SSP lets off narcotics smuggler in exchange for handsome money
9/6/2018 10:09:38 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 6: A Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) heading one of the districts of Jammu region has received huge bounty as he with the help of a Station House Officer (SHO) let off a narcotics smuggler.
Sources informed Early Times that the SSP struck hefty cash deal with a drug smuggler to secure his release. The drug dealer and his associate were arrested along with a huge consignment of heroin by a team of the district's major police station.
As soon as the duo got arrested, the recommendations for their release started to pour in the police station where they were lodged. Initially, the recommendations were made only to the SHO, who plainly refused to oblige the requests. The SHO asked the people seeking release of the drug dealer to approach the SSP for the same," said sources.
"After SHO's refusal, the requesting parties directly approached the SSP after which the district police chief asked his SHO to adopt wait and watch policy in the case. The arrested duo was kept in custody for the night," added sources.
Sources said that from the next day rounds of negotiations began to strike a deal. A direct communication channel was made with the SSP. The people who were approaching the SSP requested him to release both the detainees and hush up the entire case but the things could not materialize.
"Finally, it was agreed upon that one of the smugglers will be released while the case will be registered against the other arrested person and the quantity of the recovery made against him will be shown less so that he could easily secure a bail from the court," said sources.
Sources said that the concerned SHO mediated in the entire deal. The arrested smuggler, who had been released after the deal got finalized, was kept in custody for two days. However, the other person was detained and a case of smuggling was registered against him by the SHO to felicitate his SSP's deal.
"The release of the arrested smuggler fetched Rs 1.5 lakh for the SSP. The money was given to the SHO, who later handed it over to the SSP. Meanwhile, the police are busy in helping the other arrested smuggler for his bail," said sources.
Sources said the role of the SSP and the assistance provided by the SHO in the case has become a talk of the town adding that even several police personnel know about the district police chief's game.
