Pakistan may not listen to message from Gen Rawat
9/7/2018 10:23:04 PM
A brilliant message from the Indian Army Chief, Gen. Bipin Rawat, but unfortunately Pakistan may not heed the appeal from Gen. Rawat. And what is the message? If Pakistan stops terrorism, the Army would also be "like Neeraj Chopra", Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has said, referring to the Asian Games javelin gold medallist's gesture of reaching out to his Pakistani competitor. Rawat, while speaking at an event on to felicitate Asian Games medallists from the Army, said the situation in Kashmir improved in 2017 as compared to the year before and it was improving further in 2018. Asked if there was any "sportsmanship" on display at the Indo-Pak border, Rawat said, "They should make the first move; they should stop terrorism. If they stop terrorism, we will also be like Neeraj Chopra." It was quite a moment at the Asian Games when Chopra stood flanked by a Chinese and a Pakistani on the podium. The picture of Chopra shaking hands with Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who won bronze, on the podium went viral on social media.
Neither the Pak Army Chief nor his commanders and other senior functionaries are not like Neeraj Chopra who, despite strained ties with Pakistan, did not mind shaking hands with Arshad Nadeem. This should be the spirit of top functionaries of the Pakistan Army. Hitherto, they have not responded to pleas from India for ending export of terror to India, including Jammu and Kashmir nor they have responded to the US secretary of state's plea to initiate action against terrorists so that he was able to reset the ties with Islamabad. How can Pakistan stop export of terror to India when it has not taken any action against terrorists operating in Afghanistan when the US Government has imposed a 300 million dollar cut in military aid. And the US secretary of state announced on his visit to Pakistan but there is no response from Pakistan which means that Islamabad banks on aid from Russia and China.
If Pakistan does not listen to the sane advice from the US why should it listen to the suggestions from India which is militarily weaker than the US. Already China has buttressed Pakistan's military power. The Chinese experts have helped Pakistan in developing missile technology which thinks is superior to India. But as far as military hardware and weapons, including missiles are concerned India is better placed then Pakistan. But Pakistan relishes fighting a proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir which it considers a fruitful exercise in keeping the Kashmir issue alive. And any skirmishes on the LoC and on the IB are fully exploited on the floor of the UN General Assembly and the militancy related violence allows Pakistan to rake up the Kashmir issue and voice its sup port for the implementation of the UN resolutions. That is something else if India is opposed to the UN resolutions implementation.
