'Run for Peace stunt' proved disastrous for top cop
9/7/2018 10:49:39 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 7: While a top cop in the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been unceremoniously removed from the key post he was holding, his "misplaced priorities and family interference" are understood to have cost him the chair.
Sources said New Delhi took serious note of the way he was policing in the state. Pertinently Early Times was first to report that the timing of the recently held sporting event had not gone down well in the corridors of power in New Delhi.
Sources said though the cop was seen close to some top BJP leaders including those in Uttar Pradesh, none could favor him any further.
The police had held the "Run for Peace" on September 2, barely a few days after militants not only abducted family members of cops but also made at least four policemen speak against police force in video clips.
Sources said the developments had put the Home Ministry to embarrassment and they were expecting the Jammu and Kashmir Police to take remedial measures.
But on the contrary, the police went ahead with the Run for Peace on the banks of Dal Lake.
Sources said the top cop in question had thought that by keeping "one Advisor in good humor" by inviting him as chief guest at the occasion, would be enough to "cover the embarrassment which the government had to face because to poor policing."
"There couldn't be bigger embarrassment than militants releasing videos of abducted cops appealing DGP in favor of militants," said an official in the Civil Secretariat.
Sources said the release of father of Hizb commander Riyaz Naikoo after his arrest was another shock that suggested that policing was not in proper hands.
Sources said there were also complaints that the family members of the top cop would interfere in matter of policing including government tendering.
"Complaints were piling but the Run for Peace to hide embarrassment was the limit of everything," said an official on the condition of anonymity.
Despite repeated attempts the official couldn't be contacted for comments.
