Early Times Report
kishtwar, Sept 10: In a major intelligence failure, the Pakistan-based terror outfits like Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashker-e-Toiba have managed to recruit youths in Chenab valley for militancy.
Reports coming in from various areas of Doda and Kishtwar districts says that several youths had joined militant organizations, and some of them have displayed their photographs holding AK-47 rifle on social media while few others are working as undercover agents who are providing logistic and financial support to the militants.
This new phase of recruitment into militancy is taking place at a time when peace prevails in the area after militancy was almost wiped out from Kishtwar district while Doda was declared 'militancy free' some eight years ago.
As per the details available with "Early Times" Kishtwar police on Sunday claimed to have achieved a major success by arresting 48-year-old Hizb terrorist Aiyaz Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Ahad Wani, a resident of village Beli in Doda district, also working as District Doda president of Hurriyat Conference.
The police claims that accuse Aiyaz was camping in Kishtwar town and its outskirts to lure youth into militancy by offering them handsome cash.
He was arrested during a raid and immediately whisked away to an unknown place for sustained interrogation. Police claim is contrary to the claims made by the family members of the arrested person who said that Aiyaz was summoned by a local policemen who lured him to track some of the militants presently settled in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir and reportedly had also paid some cash to him for the same.
They said that he is innocent and has falsely trapped and demanded that call record details of the policemen who lured him into the trap be checked and called for action against him.
They said Aiyaz has two minor daughters and a minor son and he is not involved in any militancy. Some of his friends also demanded NIA probe into his arrest.
The police sources said that Aiyaz's two brothers, Riyaz Ahmad Wani and Niyaz Ahmad Wani were militants and were killed in encounters with security forces in 1993 and 2003 and added that he was in direct contact with Pakistani terrorists including Mohammad Iqbal, based in Muzaffarabad, and others for reviving militancy in Doda and Kishtwar districts.
While Hizb handler Mohammad Iqbal who crossed over to Pakistan in 2005 had promised Rs 15 lakh to Aiyaz through hawala channels in Doda and Kishtwar for disbursement among youth to lure them into the militancy and was arrested in case FIR No. 182/2018 in which couple of militants and their Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have already been arrested while at the same time Kishtwar police do not rule out some more arrests.
Investigations by Kishtwar police also revealed that Aiyaz was also directly in touch with Dukhtaran-e-Milat (DeM) activists in Kashmir including one Yasmina.
The arrest of Wani comes in wake of joining of three youths from Doda into militancy while at least two militants manage to escape from the cordon at Kishtwar town few days ago.
The intelligence sources told the "Early Times" that keeping in view of the inputs of some militants in Kishtwar, army and police launched several search and cordon operation in many areas of Kishtwar town, its adjoining areas and even today massive search operations are being carried out in Keshwan area of the district.
Meanwhile Aiyaz was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Kishtwar which sent him to 14 days police custody.
