Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 11: Despite the fact that annual examinations in the government schools are just around the corner the Department of Youth Services & Sports has framed a schedule for the various sports events to be held across the length and breadth of the Kashmir valley.
Sources told Early Times that the Department of Youth Services & Sports is going to organize most of the sports events this month and next month as well. The schedule has already been announced and the events would be kicked off in the near future.
"Annual examination for the different classes in both the government and private sector are held in the last week of September or first week of October. Holding the sports events during the examination time is totally uncalled for and it would disturb the whole process of conduct of examinations," said sources.
Sources said that by virtue of different orders scores of teachers have been asked to discharge their duties while attending to the various matters related to holding of sports events. They said that such orders provide an easy route for the teachers to escape their responsibilities and not to attend their duties.
"The Physical Education Teachers and Physical Education Masters are appointed to discharge duties with regard to holding of sports events and allied activities in the different schools. However, the decision to assign duties related to a sports event and game to general line teachers is imprudent and not acceptable," said sources.
Sources said that general line teachers have been made members of the different committees for such sports events adding that even the zonal level education officers have been made as chairman or chairperson of some of the committees. They said that whole process of academics has been disturbed due to engagement of teachers for activities other than teaching.
"General line teachers should be present in the schools so that they could give finishing touches to the syllabus of the students. Since they would remain busy with activities related to sports events it is quite natural that academics would suffer with the students being the ultimate sufferers," said sources.
Sources said that matters have been aggravated due to the presence of general line teachers in the strike called by Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers. They said that most of the schools are wearing a deserted look these days since the ReT teachers and SSA teachers are not attending to their duties.
"ReT teachers and SSA teachers are holding the strike in support of their own demands and there is no fun for general line teachers to join the strike. These teachers are least bothered about their responsibilities and as such are not attending to their duties in the different government schools," said sources.
