New Delhi 'ignores' PDP, Mehbooba fumes
9/17/2018 11:24:36 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 17: New Delhi ignoring the Kashmir centric parties, especially Peoples Democratic Party, has send the leaders of these parties into a tizzy.
Recently former chief minister and the president of the Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti claimed that her party would never join hands with the BJP in future.
Sources told Early Times that her assertion has come in the backdrop of central BJP leaders "rejecting the idea" of aligning with the PDP minus Mehbooba Mufti and her family members. "A few PDP leaders had got it conveyed to the BJP to explore the option of giving the Chief Minister's post to some senior leader of the PDP and work out the modalities to put the new government at place in J&K," sources claimed.
They said that this formula was mooted by the PDP to save the party from getting split. "A few BJP leaders from the party's state unit also tried to pursue the central leadership to consider the proposal but the idea was rejected by the BJP top brass in the Centre," sources added.
Insiders revealed that friends of the BJP leaders had almost persuaded the state leaders of the saffron party to experiment with the idea. "The two PDP rebels Javed Beigh and Abdul Rasheed Padder returned to the party fold after they were made to believe that the ice would be broken and PDP-BJP will be in the driver's seat once again," the insiders added.
They said that BJP's central leadership has made it clear to the BJP state unit to "forget" about the government formation and concentrate on the forthcoming panchayat and municipal polls. "The central leadership has indicated that situation in J&K would change drastically after these polls are held as the GoI has devised a plan to keep Kashmir centric parties, which resort to blackmail every now and then, at bay," the insiders informed.
A Kashmir watcher said that PDP and NC have realized that they can no more dictate terms to the Centre as the BJP led NDA government has made up its mind to first secure the people in Jammu and Ladakh regions, who are suffering due to a few anti-national elements active in the Valley. "When PDP was in power it pursued the agenda of separatists in the Valley and left no opportunity to project Pakistan as a stakeholder. The PDP leaders failed to prove their loyalty towards the country by making such moves which embarrassed the GoI.
Mehbooba Mufti has realized that all her tactics to woo Delhi and the central leaders have failed. Now she is trying to play the victim card to gain sympathy but there seem to be no takers for her stunt," he added.
